Ancient Samaria. A place where community and religious duty dictated everyday life. And where laws could be a matter of life and death.
Miriam is born into a world where women have few rights and no voice. Life is prescribed with little room to move, and yet there is something within Miriam that yearns for more.
As a child she finds freedom in the wild, but as a young woman, the shackles of expectation begin to bind. it is circumstances often far beyond her control, as well as her own share of mistakes, that lead Miriam to a life uncommon for women of her day.
After five failed marriages, she faces severe rejection.
Then she meets the man who changes her life forever.
A powerful retelling of the woman at the well.

I absolutely love this story. We don’t know a lot about the Samaritan woman at the well and reading this book kept me so captivated and longing to find out what was going to happen next. I absolutely loved the Scripture and the poetry that is woven through this book. It’s just so beautiful and makes the story even more special to read.
A book I could not put down and will definitely read again.

Noleen has the ability to make a story set in the time of biblical Samaria or modern day central Palestine come to life in the modern age by narrating the story of the woman at the well in an everyday and relatable way. It is the story of a young girl that reveals the best and the worst of relationships and of circumstances that can happen to any one of us, regardless of time and place. She reveals with heartbreaking honesty how relationships and religion can damage and break a person through hurt, pain, grief, abuse, despair and shame. But it is also a story of survival, of thirst for something better, of hope and courage and of real love and forgiveness, all told in a captivating manner. Highly recommended.
